1. We Are Genuinely Gentle
“I love Dr. Receveur. He’s had some dental problems in the past, and understands the pain and fear that people really have, and I think that he treats you as though he’s treating himself.”
— Eileen Davis, Louisville, KY
Up until around 20 years ago, having dental work completed was a “less than comfortable” experience. Many procedures, such as extracting teeth, relied on brute force as the latest and best technique. Things have changed a lot since then, and new methods remove the manhandling that was once a necessity. Have you heard the expression, “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?” It’s shameful, but some dentists are still stuck in their old ways, refusing to accept any change. However, it needn’t be that way. There is now no reason to connect dentistry with pain!
Dr. Receveur Method™ Dentistry utilizes all of the latest tools, techniques and clinical research. Unlike an old dog disinclined to change its ways, Dr. Receveur actively searches for any new options that might offer his patients a more peaceful and pain-free experience.
We request that you learn some new things as well.
You’ll need to stop holding on to your anxiety and fear. They are associated with “old school” of dentistry, and that’s not what we practice here.
What we do here is basically completely painless dentistry and life altering transformations. The old way of thinking about dentistry was that you must be forced to endure dental pain just to prevent things from deteriorating still further. Today’s thinking says that you can enjoy the smile you dream of without any pain!
I could spend all day informing you that you don’t need to fear the dentist any longer, but it’s up to you to let that message through. Read some of the testimonials from other patients who visited us with the very same fears that you have, then drop into the office for a free consultation and meet and greet the team. The instant sensation of trust and security that you receive will be indisputable.
Not only are we able to alleviate your fear and anxiety about dental care, we can also make you so comfortable that you’ll actually sleep straight through your entire procedure. When you take the option of sedation dentistry you will be so comfortable that we can finish incredible quantities of work within just one visit. Despite all of the comforts and amenities that we offer to our patients, most of them still prefer to have fewer visits.
“I was petrified. I’d tell anybody that was apprehensive about dental work that if they come here there is no pain and the fear was totally gone when I met the staff. They’re just awesome. It was an awesome experience for me.”
– Linda Davidson, Austin, IN
“I was really scared of the dentist when I was younger, and I think that was the basis for a lot of my dental problems. So fear was a big factor, until I started with Dr. Receveur, and now I don’t worry at all. I’m totally comfortable with Dr. Receveur, and I don’t even worry about coming. I usually fall asleep during the appointment.”
– Fran Matusky, Sellersburg, IN
“Prior to sedation dentistry, dental procedures were a nightmare for me. Crying before I would even make the appointment. Now, with sedation dentistry, I’m much more relaxed. I absolutely love the team here. I’ve actually driven three hours home from college to come in because I wouldn’t go to any other dentist.”
– Mary Gettelfinger, Jeffersonville, IN
2. We Are Friendly
“I hold the Guinness World Record for being the biggest Coward. My Fear kept me from getting my dental work done for years. Dr. Ron listened to what I had to say. He turned my nightmare into a Wonderful experience! If I had known my dental experience was going to be like this, I would have done it years ago!
–Brenda Waters, Jeffersonville, IN
As soon as you set foot in our office, you are likely to forget where you are. We aren’t a typical dentist’s office complete with a waiting room filled with nervous patients. In fact, our waiting room is normally quite empty because we don’t let anyone stay there for longer than 15 minutes!
Our job, our mission in life, isn’t treating dental patients. Our mission is creating happiness in people, and a natural side effect of that is leaving with a beautiful smile. That must be the reason our neighbors are sure we do dental work – everyone leaves our office with a great smile that wasn’t there when they walked in.
We go above and beyond to distinguish ourselves as the friendliest dentist’s office in the entire world. This begins from the very day we hire our employees, the process is based as much on their charming personality as their many professional qualifications. There’s even a bit of competition to establish who can create the most smiles each day (it’s quite contagious).
We aren’t out to just hire pretty faces though. Our members of staff are only able to relax and enjoy themselves because they are tremendously confident in everything that they do. It’s purely through this strong joining of competence and compassion that we can create the lifelong relationships with our patients that guarantee our future.
3. We Treat You with Respect and Kindness
“Dr. Ron has just been wonderful from the get-go. He allows me the time that I need, because I have certain needs that others may not have. I have total confidence in my implant. I eat more on that side because that tooth feels stronger. If you’re having problems, you really need to go see my dentist, Dr. Ron, because he’s the absolute best. He will take care of what you need and want out of your dental experience, which is great teeth and no pain.”
– Vickie Lowery, New Albany / Southern Indiana.
We aren’t a normal dentist’s office while you’ll see as soon as you walk through our door. Our first goal is to make our patients feel happy and comfortable, and that begins with respect and kindness (with a lot of laughter thrown in between).
We won’t allow you to wait around for us. No one would ever argue that a doctor’s time is valuable, but doesn’t it anger you when doctors insinuate that your time isn’t as valuable as theirs? If you ever have to wait for more than 15 minutes we’ll personally give you a $25 gift certificate or even a $25 credit toward your bill. Your time is appreciated .
We also demonstrate our respect and kindness by refusing to judge your past. One of the biggest reasons people delay dental work is due to feeling guilty for having put it off previously – the cycle never ends. We won’t ever lecture you about the dental decisions you have made in the past. Why would we? The only thing that we care about is the decision that brought you to us today.
Can you honestly say that you have ever really looked forward to visiting the dentist? Have you ever actually enjoyed a trip to the dentist’s office? Don’t worry, you will! Drop in and see us and see why.
Have a look at some of the things our facility has to offer you:
- A distraction-free, quiet and relaxed environment
- Sounds of laughter and fun around the office (we enjoy our work)
- Hot or cold drinks – juice or coffee
- Blankets and neck pillows
- DVD movie players
- Headphones so you can hear your favorite music
4. My Childhood Experiences with Bridges and Dental Prosthetics
My mission to find the ideal solutions for individuals with missing teeth wasn’t purely a professional decision ; it began with my own painful personal dental experiences.
When I was born I was faced with a congenitally missing tooth, sometimes known as a partial cleft palate. Throughout my childhood years I was forced to wear a removable plastic partial, replacing one of my front teeth. I’m very familiar with the feeling of something awkward and ineffective within my mouth. I could chew far better without it in place, so I would remove it whenever I ate food at home, but I was always far too embarrassed to do the same in front of other people. Eating with my partial in place completely removed the enjoyment from my meals.
As a teenager I could finally get a traditional bridge created. At the time three unit permanent bridges were commonplace, and I was forced to have the teeth beside the missing tooth ground down in order to support the unit. This procedure isn’t necessarily bad – in cases where any adjacent teeth already have large fillings you are actually adding some strength. However, grinding away enamel from perfectly healthy teeth is far from a good choice.
Understandably I found myself having a greater sensitivity for anyone with missing teeth compared with my fellow dental students, and I decided to learn everything I could about restoring missing teeth. All that I learned in dental school was barely the tip of the iceberg but it did lay the foundation for an entire lifetime of learning and study .
Finally, as a senior in dental school, I determined that it was time to exchange my basic dental work for something more state-of-the-art. I was in for the shock of a lifetime when the bulky old bridge was removed – one of the formerly perfect teeth beside it had been ground down to the size of a toothpick by my childhood dentist. I made a vow then and there that no matter what I would always attempt to do the right thing when helping any patients faced with missing teeth.
I was finished with dental school but I was just starting out on my quest to discover the best possible methods to replace missing teeth, without damaging healthy ones.
I started my journey by intensively studying under Dr. Gus Livaditis in the early 1980′s. Gus was a pioneer of acid etching, bonding and a new technique known as the Maryland Bridge. It was a technique that granted me the ability to place a bridge without much effect on any adjacent teeth. Whenever new technology surfaces, so does resistance, and there were plenty of dentists who steadfastly spoke out against the Maryland Bridge. From my perspective as not just a doctor, but also a patient, I knew they were incorrect and I continued to place bridges in this manner. Time has passed and proven that they are effective. I still place them to this day.
It was terrifying to take a stand against so many influential dentists who spoke out against Maryland Bridges at that time, but it was certainly the correct path to follow as it successfully provided us with the ability to replace teeth without any grinding to the neighboring teeth. However, even this was not the end to my journey of discovery.
My Long Search for the Truth regarding Dental Implants
It was not difficult to see that dental implants were a realistic answer to a multitude of dental problems, but I failed to understand why so little time had been dedicated to this in dental school. Missing teeth are an enormous problem for so many people.
The more I learned, the less I could comprehend why dental students are given so little education on this phenomenon that has solved huge amounts of problems in ways that were much more successful than the things I had been taught during my time in dental school.
I continued to study and to solve people’s problems for ten years utilizing dental implant technology, but I discovered that many patients were often mistrustful of something so new. Dental implants are a big decision and for some they can be a “hard sell”. Many patients were incredibly hesitant to attempt something “new,” some were concerned about potential failure and others simply hated to hear the word “surgery.”
During the 1990′s orthopedic surgeons started to successfully place huge amounts of titanium hips, knees and many other joints with quick and easy periods of recovery. At this time dental implant surgery took off. Once people saw that the same technology that was in use to create an artificial hip so easily was also being utilized for something as small as a “little dental implant” – suddenly it wasn’t so scary.
There was still one more hurdle to jump…
I had conducted a lot of study to make sure that using dental implants was the correct choice for my patients, and my years of experience have proven it. For many years, I had referred my patients to more practiced oral surgeons to actually place the implant. At the outset, when implants were still new, this process worked fine. However, it soon became apparent that for the sake of efficiency, and the establishment of trust for my patients, it was time for me to start to place the implants myself.
Finally, after utilizing both implants and Maryland bridges in the treatment plans of literally thousands of patients, I started to search for the best of the best to help in my own personal training. It began with Nobel BioCare, the principal manufacturer of dental implants in the country. I studied their systems and prosthetics under the watchful gaze of Dr. Jack Hahn, a Cincinnati dentist who himself had placed more than 30,000 individual implants. The training and experience were priceless and I still use a few of their products today. However, because they were keen to push “their product” I decided it was time to expand my knowledge base.
I spoke to every dentist and oral surgeon that I could find to ask for their recommendation; time after time The Midwest Implant Institute in Columbus, Ohio was mentioned until it became obvious it was the clear champion. My training there was a hands-on experience under close supervision from Dr. Heller, the founder and owner of the institute. He was responsible for the placement of 35,000 dental implants and is a specialist in his field. He doesn’t just perform implant procedures; he is responsible for inventing a great number of the instruments and techniques that are still used today.
Doctors travel to Columbus, Ohio from around the world to train with Dr. Heller, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity that I was given to work with a true legend “in my own backyard”.
During the period of my externship at The Midwest Implant Institute I was able to develop a strong professional network with many other likeminded dentists from all around the globe. We shared the strong desire to exceed the 95% success rate that implants were seeing across the world, and we created groups to study and share the discoveries that we made back at our individual practices long after our externships had finished. Many of the doctors within my network alone have placed implants for up to 30 years with enormous success!
Through this network I discovered the foremost implant specialist in the world, Dr. Carl Misch, and determined to persist with my studies under his tutorship to learn everything I could learn regarding this modern miracle.
I also met Dr. James Butler, a nationally celebrated expert in Mini-Implants and an instructor with IMTEC, one of the original and leading producers of Mini-Implants. The formation of that relationship led me to IntraLock, a state of the art Mini-Implant company.
What are Mini-Implants?
Mini-Implants successfully provide me with the ability to place an implant to support a crown, bridge or denture in an area where the amount of bone is limited, supplying an option to those who have been previously unable to receive implants. They are now a popular option for anyone searching for less expensive alternatives to traditional implants and in many cases they present a quicker treatment regimen. It’s another tool within my bag of tricks, and possessing a full bag of tricks brings my quest full-circle. ![]()
My personal hunt for an excellent choice to replace missing teeth that began in my childhood finally had closure. Now I can feel great about the many options I can offer to my patients. FINALLY!
I could have taken the easy route after dental school and opened my dental practice, offering only a handful of procedures for the rest of my career. However, my personal challenge was to be more than just a dentist; it was to be a dentist who provided the very best options and the most choice, as well as the most gentle and caring care. That’s the reason I went through vast amounts of training, to be able to provide the full range of services – from the surgical placement of implants to the design and placement of your brand new teeth, all within one office.
5. You Receive More Options
For one reason or another there are many dentists who will offer you just a few choices of dental procedure. Perhaps they honestly don’t know about the other options, or perhaps they have chosen not to be trained in the large variety of methods available. Many dentists simply decide on their personal favorites and make their patients work with those options. They won’t even mention the procedures that they would rather not perform.
In the Receveur Method™, I rely immensely on preventing problems. If I can prevent tooth decay and gum disease completely, then I have sincerely performed a service for my patients.
Unfortunately not every dental problem can be prevented, which draws us to the next priority – early detection. I take full advantage of the latest detection technology to discover problems that most dentists miss. As an example, our fiber-optic lighting system can be used to detect the tiny cracks in teeth that our patients insist other dentists had never discovered.
When it comes to preventing any pain and discomfort during your procedure, we go to great lengths to provide you with many choices. These include methods such as topical anesthetic pastes, needle-free anesthetic, dental sedation, nitrous oxide analgesia and many other non-drill methods. I have a method where I will pinch your cheek as I give you an anesthetic; it’s incredibly effective at hiding what I’m doing. The majority of patients tell me that they don’t feel anything during my injections, and that’s the truth!
We also provide you with more options when it comes to any more complex procedures. We can offer you inlays and onlays, veneers, bonding, implants, shaping, whitening and many, many more.
One thing that we don’t offer is any poor excuse explaining that you only have one or two options for your dental problem. With the Receveur Method™ there will usually be a number of clearly explained options to choose from. We’ll chat through every option that modern dentistry has to offer to you so that you are able to make an informed and educated decision.
